CFP: Women as Readers in Early Modern Italy
Women as Readers in Early Modern Italy edited by Julia L. Hairston and Milena Sabato
We are seeking abstracts for a collection of essays on women as readers in early modern Italy. Possible topics include but are not limited to:
- women’s literacy and education
- admonitions regarding what women read and/or write
- types of reading—oral, silent, public, private, etc.
- the various sources for the study of reading (archival documents, life-writing, portraits, treatises, etc.)
- how and where one reads in relation to one’s social status
- women and the publishing houses
- books intended for women
- genres associated with women readers
Please send inquiries or expressions of interest to julia.hairston@gmail.com and sabato.milena@libero.it. We would like to have all abstracts in by March 15, 2021 and the essays (6,000–8,000 words ca. notes included) by January 31, 2022 or a date to be agreed upon with the editors.
